These kits are designed for the buyer who wants to preserve the look and feel of the factory gauges with brighter results. Our Factory Color match kits use specially designed “warm white” LED and SMD technology to mimic the exact color of a factory installed incandescent light bulb. By matching the color of a factory installed incandescent bulb, our kits preserve the exact color that the vehicle had when it left the assembly line, but with a significant increase in brightness.

Factory Color varies based on the year, model and option of the vehicle. Some vehicles are built with small filter lenses designed to change the color of the light that illuminates the gauges, while other vehicles use no filters at all. By installing LED bulbs that mimic the light color of the original bulbs, no matter what filters (if any) were installed at the factory, the gauges will illuminate the same color as they did when the vehicle was new.  

For vehicles that use filters, the actual factory color can be a bit deceptive. For example, most Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles used blue filters (dome shaped lenses) over the illumination bulbs to change the color of the light. When the warm white light passes through these filters, it creates a blue-green color that is similar in color to the old glass Coke bottles from the same era. So why do many owners of these vehicles mistake this color of their dash lights for green? This is because the lights in the dash are older (weaker) or other conditions are preventing the bulbs from fully lighting, the results are a much more yellow light output from the bulb. The more yellow the light the bulbs becomes in your dash, the more green your dash will appear. Yellow + Blue = Green.  

Ford also produced some vehicles with red filters in the 1980’s. The Mustang was one vehicle that received the red dash light filters. Many of these vehicles suffer from a very orange appearing dash color as a result of the factory bulbs light output weakening with age. By installing an LED bulb in place of the old incandescent bulbs, a consistent dash light color will be realized across the full range of the dimmer in the vehicle.
