Ultra Bright 5XS SMD (7 LED) Bulb BA9S Bayonet Base - Super Wide Angle
These 12V LED bulbs are manufactured using two different types of surface mount diodes (SMDs) and compact circuit boards. They feature 4 side firing 335 Series SMD chips and 1 forward firing 5050 Series SMD chip. Each of our 5050 series SMD chips contains 3 LEDs for a total of 7 LEDs per bulb! The combination of forward and side firing SMDs provides incredibly bright light at over a 270 degrees viewing angle. A single SMD chip provides nearly 4 times the light of a traditional LED. They are the brightest LED bulbs available in this small of a package. Simply put, there is not a brighter bulb available in this size! These bulbs are manufactured to our specs using custom compact circuit boards allowing the bulb to be smaller than similar bulbs on the market. This makes our able to bulb fit into a lot of places that others will not, including gauge clusters! Visit our tech section for more information on the differences between LED and SMD technology.
These bulbs feature a BA9S bayonet type base (see chart for base compatibility). They provide superior results in applications where light is needed both from the sides of the bulb and from the end of the bulb to illuminate the intended area. These LED bulbs are the best choice for for gauge clusters, automotive side marker lamps, and more. Choose from six colors or mix and match to suit your needs.
Need a little help finding the correct bulb for your application? Check out our handy conversion table below for the two most common base types.
Bulb Base Compatibility Table
Base Type | Incadescent Bulb Numbers (Popular Bulbs in Bold) |
BA9S (Bayonet) | 53, 57, 182, 257, 363, 1445, 1816, 1891, 1893, 1895, 6253 |
This table displays bulb base compatibility. Please be sure you have clearance for the LEDs in your application. |
Benefits of LED bulbs include: Low current requirements, low heat output, extra long bulb life (avg. of over 10,000 hours), no bulb fade with age, increased brightness, vibration resistant, and many more.
Note: LED bulbs are polarized. If they do not light, check to be sure the wiring to the socket has the positive lead on the tip of the bulb.

Improved lights in dash cluster
Posted by Rare70cat on 27th Nov 2024
These LED's were a big improvement over the stock style bulbs with a stock look. I'd say 25%+ in improvement. Easy to read, detailed instructions my 1970 Cougar. I forgot the bulbs for the climate area, radio and clock. Had to call to have them added.

Worked for my 66 Mustang with the notorious dash light bulb sockets with too much clearance
Posted by Tim Ruffner on 28th Jun 2023
I found a recommendation on a blog about these bulbs because I wanted to brighten up the dismally dim incandescents in my 66 Mustang's dash to LED. The problem is that no matter what bulbs you buy, the 64.5-66 Ponies had sockets with too much clearance and even some incandescents come loose and pop out. These ones worked perfectly, just as the other user had indicated. I am ecstatic! They were more expensive than the other LEDs I had bought to try, but they are well worth the price, and I have plenty extra for a few other spots in the car that may use them.
